Amsterdam - De Piratenpartij is in alle landen waar de partij actief is, een initiatief gestart om de tekst voor een Europese Grondwet te produceren. Vandaag lanceert de politieke beweging een Engelstalig platform waarmee de PPNL alle Europeanen oproept om suggesties te doen voor zo’n grondwet.

Thomas de Groot (29) is mede-initiatiefnemer van deze grootschalige crowdsource-actie. De Groot: “Het doel is om een document te creëren met gedeelde waarden en een gezamenlijk idee voor de toekomst van Europa. Dit document moet in de plaats komen van het Verdrag van Lissabon dat eind 2007 door de Europese Unie is getekend. Dat verdrag is van bovenaf opgelegd. Met deze door de Europese bevolking zelf opgestelde Grondwet, willen we Europese politici laten zien dat interactieve democratie écht kan werken.”

De initiatiefnemers hopen dat Europeanen actief mee doen om de actie tot een succes te maken. Mede-initiatiefnemer en PPNL-lijsttrekker voor de Europese Verkiezingen Matthijs Pontier (31): “Hoe meer mensen meedoen, hoe meer kracht het document krijgt."

De Piratenpartij werkt voor deze campagne samen met verschillende Europese organisaties die als doelstelling democratische vernieuwing hebben. De feestelijke kick-off zal vanavond plaatsvinden in Amsterdam, op de vrij toegankelijke innovatie- en duurzaamheidsconferentie Fabcity Campus.

Europe by the People: The Amsterdam Pirateparty is Crowdsourcing a European Constitution

 

The Amsterdam Pirateparty is launching a platform to crowdsource a European Constitution: by the people, for the people. The platform is created using open source software that was created in Iceland.

The Pirateparty is a worldwide movement of local political parties that want to increase transparancy in politics and improve democracy by using more innovative tools. Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands, currently chair of the European Union.

The platform will be launched in Amsterdam, but everyone all over Europe will be able to participate. The people behind this project say that the goal is to create a document that caputres the shared values and collective ideas for the future of Europe. This document will have to replace the Lisbon Treaty, which they claim was imposed on the people from above by European technocrats. ‘We want to show the European Parliament that people can work together to shape a European future. We want politicians to look at what we’re doing: interactive democracy works!’

The pirates hope people all over Europe will actively collaborate to make this crowdsourcing-campaign a success. The more people participate, the more power the document will have. The entire platform is open source en accesible by everyone. It is built on YourPriorities, a platform that was used in Iceland to crowdsource a constitution.

On  <http://www.peoplesconstitution.eu> www.peoplesconstitution.eu people can write their own constitution, discuss ideas and add sections to the document. For this project, the Amsterdam Pirateparty is bringing together organisations from all over the world to work together. -Let's Write a Constitution Together! We will submit ideas and work on the constitution together and test the platform LIVE so bring your laptop!
