That sounds like a good plan and it fits our first requirement too.

Sounds like a good plan too.

More practical: if we both simply fork the original, then send each
other pull-requests, we could end up with a nice and "unbranded" branch.

That branch could be sent as pull-request to the official, upstream
bettermeans, but it can serve as a place for others to start off just as
well.

I will maintain a fork at https://github.com/piratenpartij/bettermeans

In that fork, I will make a branch "features/unbranded" and, if I
encounter them, feature/bug-fix-name branches as well, for bug-fixes.

Once I have it running on our servers, and once people start using it,
we will have to see if it works out within the organisation. If so, then
I will get some resources, time and people together to get a larger
"upgrade" going. Since Ruby 1.8.7 is end of line, the current rails used
under bettermeans has had some security releases and all; it needs to be
upgraded to Rails 3.x and Ruby 1.9 at the very least. But all this will
only be done if we actually start using it and feel confident about it.

Therefore, I cannot commit to this entirely. I do commit to getting a
version running, which will be unbranded. But I cannot, as yet, promise
to keep maintaining and putting resources in it.

I will get back to you with some actual code, and/or a pull request
soon; most probably mid-next-week.

Regards,

Bèr
