Toonaangevend voor de beweging is het doel af te rekenen met bestaande modellen van politieke representatie door het internet te verkennen als alternatief</span><span style="font-size:13.5pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;color:rgb(0,0,153)"> ‘digitaal parlement.’ Middels het open-source principe verdedigen de Piraten radicale democratisering van politiek, economie en cultuur. Since 2006 more than 40 Pirate Parties worldwide have been founded, seeking to reshape existent models of political representation by investigating the potential of the internet as an alternative ‘digital parliament.’ Through the optics of the open-source principle, Pirates defend radical democratization of politics, economy, and culture. Such investigation is also present in artists' work, such as the<span> </span><i>Status Project</i><span> </span>by Heath Bunting, wherein he attempts to crack the ‘code’ of citizen identity; the deconstruction of the visual representation of political leaders by design collective Foundland; and the collaboration of design and research studio Metahaven with Wikileaks.</span><u></u><u></u></p>
