<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">Binnenkort brengt Microsoft Windows 8 uit. Microsoft eist van producenten van computers dat de machines geen besturingssysteem kunnen draaien dat niet door Microsoft is goedgekeurd. Dit wordt bewerkstelligd door de techniek met de misleidende naam 'Secure Boot'. Microsoft beweert dat producenten in computers met een x86 processor de gebruiker 'Secure Boot' mogen laten schakelen. Voor computer met een ARM processor staat Microsoft dit niet toe.</p>

<p style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px; -qt-user-state:0;">In haar verkiezingsprogramma zegt de Piratenpartij op veel plaatsen dat open source software en open standaarden zouden moeten worden gebruikt door de overheid. Het lijkt er op dat dit technisch onomgelijk wordt op het gros van de verkochte computers. Immers, als niet het volledige besturingssysteem open is, dan is niet te controlleren hoe computerprogrammas, ook al zijn ze open source, zich op dat besturingsssysteem gedragen.</p>
