Tijdens de laatste PPI conferentie is er een gigantische flamewar geweest over het wel of niet doen van politieke statements door PPI.<br>De meerderheid was hier op tegen. Het heeft bijna PPI vernietigd. Een aantal piratenpartijen wilde namelijk de nieuwe statuten niet tekenen vanwegen het feit dat ze o.a te onduidelijk zijn.  Het bericht hier onder toont aan dat men terecht bang was voor politieke statements van PPI.<br>
<br>Op het laatste moment heb ik een oplossing bedacht om alle piratenpartijen bijelkaar te houden.<br>Met moeite is er vervolgens een "Declaration of Common understanding" opgezet met als doel alle PP's toch bijelkaar te houden.<br>
Tijdens de volgende PPI conferentie, zouden de PP's die deze getekend hebben op gelijke voet amendementen in mogen dienen voor het veranderen van de statuten; Primair met als doel conflicten zoals het onderstaande te doen voorkomen.<br>
De statuten bieden immers te veel ruimte voor interpretatie, en de belofte van de PPI board; dat het geen politieke statements zou doen; blijkt inderdaad niet betrouwbaar te zijn.<br><br>Mvrg,<br><br>Samir<br><br><div class="gmail_quote">

I hereby post the message we sent CoreTX to explain our decision:<br>

We had the discussions about our statutes during the meeting. One point was<br>
that the statutes don't explicitly prohibit or allow PPI to sign any<br>
declarations. Concerning the discussion whether or not PPI can make<br>
political statements we came to the agreement that PPI cannot force members<br>
to adopt or not any political ideas, but we can act "in the interest and<br>
goals of our members" (statutes II (1) (a) ). We decided to sign the<br>
declaration because the dealine was the day after the meeting and we wanted<br>
to make sure Pirates are mentionned in the document, pursuing to "raise<br>
awareness and widen the spread of the pirate movement" (statutes II (1) (b)<br>
). The fact that we were mentionned in a New York Times article underlines<br>
that by our action we promoted the pirate movement:<br>
