Indeed, it is my impression that the position of GroenLinks is
genuine, and not
just a trick to attract voters. All other parties, from the left (SP
(Socialist)) to the right (VVD (Conservative Liberal)) are still in
the more-is-better camp when it is about copyright. Arda Gerkens (SP)
was in the same working group on copyright as Fred Teevens (VVD) that
produced the "make downloading illegal" recommendation, and both
didn't seem to understand much of the concerns -- even though they
invited me to their consultation rounds. Other parties either don't
seem to know or don't seem to care. (Such as PVV and CDA)
I went through all political programs for the European elections last
year, and
GL was the only party having anything positive in their program. If I
were the pirate party NL, I would suggest a list-connection with GL,
so that voters can vote PP without fear of loosing their vote if PP
doesn't have enough votes to gain a seat.
For those supporters of the PP who are otherwise on the right side of
the political spectrum: GL is a far cry from the parties that created
it a long time ago, and has shifted quite a lot in the
progressive-liberal direction.
Having said that, I believe the proposals of GL are not yet good
enough, and the
need for a PPNL remains.
One of the reasons for creating the PP in the first is to get our
positions on the political road-map. GL is picking them up, we should
applaud that. We might consider bringing it under the attention of
other parties as well, as I think, if we bring our position
rationally, and explain our arguments, others parties outside the
mainstream may also join the bandwagon. (thinking about the
ChristenUnie, for example).
